The story as narrated
King Adeyemi, 58, grey-streaked beard, ivory-white gold-embroidered robe, leopard sash and gold crown, sits on a golden throne in a white marble palace and says: "I have hidden a secret for twenty years. Kofi, the prince you call my son, is not my blood." Queen Amara, 49, in crimson and gold with a tall gold headwrap, gasps in horror. In the sunlit courtyard, Prince Kofi, 24, in a white tunic with gold trim and blue sash, gives bread to village children and says: "A king who does not feed his people deserves no crown." That night, Mama Efe, 78, the royal midwife in an indigo wrapper, kneels before the King holding an old baby bracelet and confesses: "The night of the fire, your brother's son lived and yours did not. I placed his child in the royal cradle." Alone by candlelight, Amara seals a secret letter with red wax and vows: "No one will take my son's crown, whatever it costs." The next day, before the cheering court, the King rises and announces: "In seven days, Kofi will be crowned King of Zafara!" At dusk, Jabari, the King's exiled scarred brother in a dark cloak, storms the palace gates and shouts: "Stop this coronation! That crown belongs to MY son!" The King's face turns to stone. To be continued.
