The story as narrated

Every night, when everyone else went to sleep, he kept arranging things. At first, nobody thought it was strange. He would quietly move the chairs, straighten the books, and line up the shoes by the door. But one night, his sister woke up and saw him standing in the hallway. He was arranging people. Photographs of every person in the house were spread across the floor. He carefully placed them in a perfect circle. “Why are you doing that?” she whispered. He slowly turned around. “I’m making room,” he said. “For what?” He smiled and pointed toward the empty space in the middle. “For the person who comes when everyone goes to sleep.” That night, nobody slept. Except him. And at exactly 3:00 a.m., they heard someone downstairs moving the furniture.
