The story as narrated

On Christmas Eve, 1971, seventeen-year-old Juliane Koepcke boarded a flight with her mother in Lima, Peru. They were travelling to spend Christmas with Juliane's father. Not long after take-off, the weather began to deteriorate. The aircraft flew directly into a violent thunderstorm. Turbulence threw the plane around as passengers sat terrified in their seats. Luggage, food and drinks began flying through the cabin. Then Juliane saw a brilliant flash near the right wing. Lightning had struck the aircraft. Suddenly, the plane began to break apart in mid-air. Juliane was still strapped into a row of seats when she was thrown from the aircraft. Thousands of feet below her was the Amazon rainforest. She fell towards the jungle still attached to her seat. Somehow, Juliane survived the fall. But surviving the plane crash was only the beginning. She was now alone, injured, and stranded deep inside the Amazon rainforest.
