Lyrics as sung in the video

[INTRO – SPOKEN] Hey! Yeah, you. Down here. I'm that little grain of sand stuck to your shoe. You think I'm tiny? You think I'm boring? Well... I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! Hit it! [VERSE 1 – THE MOUNTAIN] I used to be a mountain, Way up in the sky! A giant chunk of solid rock, Standing tall and high. Then rain came down. Wind blew through. Ice got in my cracks... And here's what weathering Started to do... CRACK! Little pieces broke away. Smaller... Smaller... Day by day. I started as a mountain, But look at what I am... After lots and lots of weathering, I'M A TINY GRAIN OF SAND! [CHORUS] I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! Can you believe THAT?! Now I'm just a little grain Inside your baseball cap! Break me! Move me! Tumble me around! Rivers carry pieces From the mountains to the ground! Weathering can BREAK it! Erosion moves it away! Earth keeps changing Every single day! I might look like sand Sitting in your hand... But buddy... I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! [VERSE 2 – EROSION] Then water picked me up And carried me away. Bouncing down a river For a very long day! Roll! Bounce! Bump! SMACK! Every little tumble Can wear away a rock! Water can move sediment. Wind can move it too. Ice can carry rocks along... There's LOTS that rocks go through! Weathering broke me. Erosion made me move. And after all that traveling... I found a beach! Not bad. Nice view. [CHORUS] I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! Now I'm on the shore! I've traveled down a river And I've bounced along the floor! Break me! Move me! Tumble me around! Sediment keeps traveling Until it settles down! Weathering can BREAK it! Erosion moves it away! Earth keeps changing Every single day! I might look like sand Sitting in your hand... But buddy... I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! [VERSE 3 – SEDIMENTARY ROCK] Then more sand landed Right on top of me. More... And more... And MORE... [KID-LIKE SAND VOICE] Um... A little personal space, please? Layers piled above me. The pressure started to grow. I got compacted... SQUISH! Down below! Minerals helped cement The grains together tight. And after lots of time... I became a ROCK! Again! Sedimentary! That's my name! From little bits of sediment To rock again! [BREAK] So... Mountain. Sand. Rock. What a life. Surely I'm done now. ... Why is it getting hot? [VERSE 4 – HEAT AND PRESSURE] Buried deeper underground, Pressure pushing all around! Hotter! Tighter! Things began to change. But I didn't melt... My minerals rearranged! Heat and pressure Can change a rock, Making something new Deep under the ground. Metamorphic rock! That's what I've become! Okay, Earth. Very funny. ARE WE DONE?! [CHORUS – BIG] I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! Then I became sand! Then I got SQUISHED Underneath the land! Heat me! Press me! Change me underground! The rock cycle keeps on going Round and round! Weather me! Move me! Bury me away! Earth can change a rock In MANY different ways! I might look different From how I first began... But buddy... I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! [VERSE 5 – MAGMA] Deeper... Hotter... Deeper... HOTTER... Wait. WAIT! I'M MELTING! If rock gets hot enough, It can melt below. Now I'm part of magma... And I don't have toes, But if I DID... THEY'D BE REALLY HOT! Magma is melted rock Below Earth's ground. But if it reaches the surface... LAVA comes out! Then lava can cool. Magma can too. When melted rock cools... IGNEOUS ROCK! Brand new! [BREAK – SPOKEN] Mountain. Sand. Sedimentary. Metamorphic. Magma. Igneous. ... I need a vacation. [BRIDGE – THE ROCK CYCLE] But here's the trick About the rock cycle: There's not just ONE Path rocks can take. Rocks can weather. Rocks can melt. Heat and pressure Can change them too. They can stay rocks For a VERY long time, Or change as Earth Changes through time! The rock cycle isn't A little racetrack. There are different paths... And some rocks come BACK! [FINAL CHORUS] I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! Now you know my tale! I've ridden rivers, Sat on beaches, And traveled without a trail! WEATHERING BREAKS! EROSION TAKES! SEDIMENT SETTLES DOWN! Heat and pressure Can change rocks Deep underground! Magma can cool! New rock can form! Earth keeps changing Through sunshine and storms! So next time you're walking With sand between your toes... Remember that little grain Has been... WHO KNOWS WHERE IT'S BEEN?! It might have been part Of a mountain long ago! [FINAL] I USED TO BE A MOUNTAIN! A MOUNTAIN! A MOUNTAIN! Now I'm sand... And honestly? The beach is pretty nice. [OUTRO – SPOKEN] Wait. Why are you putting me In a sandcastle? ... Here we go again.
